Breakthrough in probiotics: Probi signs licence agreement with Danone

Reserach-based Probi AB, headquartered in Lund in the Öresund Region, has signed a licence agreement with the diary giant Danone, regarding the lactobacillus Lp 299 v.  The agreement grants Danone exclusive rights to use the bacteria in products on the global market, with the exception of Scandinavia and Great Britain where the Swedish dairy Skånemejerier holds the rights.

It is a matter of a long-term collaboration, that is estimated to bring Probi royalty fees corresponding to USD 62 million over the next ten years.

“This is a commercial breakthrough and a huge step in the strategy to secure our position among the leading biotechnology companies in the world within the probiotics arena. Now we will further intensify our efforts to equally successfully commercialise our two other business areas, ‘Dietary Supplement’s and ‘Clinical Nutrition’”, comments Peter Zakrisson, chairman of Probi.
