All time high Danish organic milk consumption

The Danish consumers drink organic milk like never before. According to new numbers from Organic Denmark, almost 28% of the total milk sales in Denmark is organic. At the same time last year the number was nearly 26%.

Naturmælk, Ællingegård and Thiese are three of the small dairies producing organic milk. According to CEO at Naturmælk, the company has experienced an increase in sales from USD 10 million last year to USD 14.7 million this year.

The customers are demanding alternative products of different quality and variety, which basically is the reason for the small dairies’ success. If the customers were not demanding these products, the supermarkets would not trade them.

The success leads to funding the small dairies’ product innovation, which they call their life insurance.

One of the small Danish dairies, Naturmælk, is already about to introduce a new product on the Danish market. Their newest innovation is called Aronia, which is a soured milk based on the buttermilk that results from production of butter. Naturmælk is an independent co-operative dairy focusing on the process of organic milk.
