Antidiabetic Food Excellence Centre launched! – 200 Million in funding

The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, VINNOVA, has decided to promote the research at the national Antidiabetic Food Centre at Lund University. The centre will receive financing from VINNOVA during the next ten years to come, and is one of fifteen excellence centres for research and development in Sweden that receives financial support from VINNOVA. Already a number of companies have joined the centre to be part of the research activities. Financing from corporations and the regional government (Region Skåne) adds on to the VINNOVA financing.

The aim of the Excellence Centre in Lund is to contribute to new understanding of food designed to reduce risk of obesity, type two diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. ”The fact that we’ve been given financial support is very fortunate for everyone working within the area. It also means a lot to the public health and the food industry”, says Professor Inger Björck, Head of the centre. Thirty-eight senior scientists from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine take part in the Antidiabetic Food Centre cooperation. All projects will be carried on in cooperation with regional trade and industry and organizations such as Region Skåne who are supporting innovations.

The new Antidiabetic Food Centre is established within the Functional Food Science Centre.
