Leading consumer brands
The traditional role of the Öresund Region as a food centre is one
reason why almost all sectors in the food and related industries are
represented here. A number of these companies have become leaders in
the world market.
Several leading multinational food and beverage processing companies
have already chosen the Öresund Region as the location for their
Scandinavian headquarters. These companies include Nestlé, Unilever,
Orkla, Campbell and Masterfoods.

Packaging
The Öresund Region is a site for unique R&D work within packaging,
design and logistics. World-leading companies like TetraPak and
PLM/Rexam began their business here. All types of packaging materials
are produced including glass, paper and board, flexible packaging
materials, plastic, metal and aluminium, and new calcium carbonate
based materials from Eco-Lean.

Process technology and equipment
The first-rate food processing equipment sector here is highly
internationalised with leading players such as ABB, Alfa Laval, Tetra
Pak, Danfoss, APV and Foss Electric. Manufacturers cooperate closely
with producers of control and measuring equipment, underlined by the
demands for food safety, traceability, specially designed plants and
the need for production control. The next generation of measuring and
control equipment will be biotechnological.

Additives and ingredients
The tough demands placed on food industry suppliers have given rise to
several world-class companies in the food additives and ingredients
sector. Companies such as Danisco Cultor, Arla Foods, Chr. Hansen,
Copenhagen Pectin/Kelco, Karlshamns, Lyckeby and Novozymes have
contributed to make Öresund an acknowledged global leader in this
field. One driving force has been the close cooperation with the food
industry, and with research institutions and universities.
